Ten years ago, when most of us hadn't heard about the Internet, Wally Bock was doing business there. Three years ago his friends started asking him how to get connected and do business online. So many of them asked that he wrote a book about it. It's called How to Get on the Information Superhighway. In 1983, he founded the Bock Information Group that helps organizations and individuals use information and information tools to improve results in the information-based Digital Age. In 1986 there came the first connection to the Internet and in 1987 the company made its first sale of a product over the Net. That makes Wally one of the pioneers both in the Internet and in Net commerce. As early as 1988 he was giving programs and doing consulting in the area of new digital media and their importance for business. That early exposure led several individuals and companies to call him and ask about how to get online and how to work there. In the beginning, he'd invite them over to the office and walk them through some of the things that they could do. But, as more and more people called, that became less and less of a good idea. Later that year, he and Jeff Senne were having a conversation about the Net and of the World Wide Web and what they meant for business. Both of them were experienced consultants and writers and they were talking about what kinds of things they could recommend to their clients. As the silence got longer and longer, it became clear that there wasn't anything out there that they were comfortable recommending. Everything they saw and considered was either too much of a technical book or concentrated only on marketing or on the public Web. At some point one of them, neither can remember who just now, said, "well then, we ought to write it." The result was the book Cyberpower for Business published by Career Press. At about the same time that that book came out, National Press Publications bought out Wally's audiotape album entitled "Doing Business on the Net." Wally and Jeff have also produced two videotapes about building profit on the Web and setting up a profitable business Web site. Wallys latest book, co-authored with Jeff is Net Income: Cut Costs, Boosts Profit and Enhance Operations On-Line. The book, based on research into over 100 companies, and includes a forward by Jim Barksdale of Netscape. He's been interviewed by the likes of the Wall Street Journal, PBS, and CNN and is a popular speaker to audiences around the country because he makes business sense of the strange, new world of online technology.
